Pyin Oo Lwin is a scenic hill town in Mandalay, located in the Shan Highland. Pyin Oo Lwin has 5 names and all are well-known; Pyin Oo Lwin, May Myo (May Town), Taung Hlay Khar (Hillside stairs), Taung Sa Khan (Hill station) and the most well-known Pan Myo Taw (City of Flowers).
Sweater knitting, flower and vegetable gardens, strawberry and pineapple orchards, coffee plantations and cow rearing are the main local business.
National Kandawgyi Garden
The garden has many collection of flora, including foreign species, orchids of various species in orchid garden, dahlia garden, rose garden, many exotic fruits and shady tress. It has three museum; the fossils museum, the petrified wood museum and the butterfly museum. There is a watch tower to climb up which offers a great view of Pyin Oo Lwin and the Shan Hills.
Pwe Kauk Waterfall
Pwe Kauk waterfall also known as B.E waterfall is a very pleasant picnic spot in Pyin Oo Lwin. There are two waterfalls in Pwe Kauk where many people swim or play in the shallow water. There is a market beside the waterfall where visitors can buy local products such as wines, strawberry jams, fruits and flowers etc.
A one hour hike from the falls there is the natural caves of U Nyaung Gu where several Buddhas are enshrined.
Peik Chin Myaung Cave
Also knowned as Maha Nandamu cave is a limestone cave estimated between 230 million and 310 million years old. The cave is called Peik Chin Myaung Cave as plenty of Peik Chin plants used to grow there. The cave is really interesting to visit where many Buddha images and pagoda exist and the water naturally seep from the walls.
Maha Ann Htoo Kan Thar Pagoda
Maha Ann Htoo Kan Thar Pagoda is also known as Pyi Chit Pagoda. The reason is that it is one of the three Buddha statues delivered to China but it fell down from the truck and built a pagoda as an offering to Buddha. From the pagoda, visitors can enjoy the scenic view of Pyin Oo Lwin.
This is one of the attractions visitors must see in Pyin Oo Lwin. There are many British colonial houses and most of them are located in the south end of circular road. Governor’s House is one of the famous colonial houses in Pyin Oo Lwin.
